Completely new technology, AnnoTater is a Windows utility that invisibly embeds annotations in picture files (.bmp, .jpg, .gif).
An annotation is defined as a note, comment, or explanation added as further clarification, and that is exactly what AnnoTater does. It invisibly embeds annotations into picture files, usually for the purpose of documenting what the picture represents, or contains, or who the author is, etc.
The annotation is invisible to web browsers and picture viewers, it becomes visible only in the AnnoTater viewer. When viewed with an ordinary picture viewer or editor, the annotation is invisible.

Annotated pictures need no additional files (such as a database) to contain the annotation, it is stored within the picture file itself. Wherever the picture goes, the annotation also goes.
In most cases, you can treat an annotated picture just like any other picture file. It will display normally in most browsers and image viewers, can be part of a web page, an email attachment, or posted in usenet. However, when a picture file is viewed with AnnoTater, the invisible annotation is extracted and displayed.
