Yes, but you cannot use their news server. AOL does not have an NNTP news server like almost every other Internet Service Provider. To run Pluckit on AOL, you will need to find a different news server. Click here to see a list of subscription news servers.

How can I block spam? 

Pluckit has the ability to detect and prevent the download of most spam. In particular, the forced exclusions and crossposting limits are very useful. Additionally, Pluckit has automatic internal methods for detecting and avoiding the most common types of spam.

Can I use the Pluckit viewers to view other pictures on my computer? 

Yes. Pluckit has a gallery viewer and a large viewer that can be used to view pictures in any directory, whether plucking or not.

Can Pluckit handle RAR and yEnc?

Yes

Can I use Pluckit with Windows 3.1?

No, Pluckit is incompatible with Windows 3.1.

Does Pluckit run on NT?

Pluckit will pluck movie files of any format. You will need an external viewer to watch the movies. The Pluckit viewers are only for still image files.

I travel during the week, can I setup Pluckit to work by itself  while I am gone? 

Yes indeed! Pluckit boasts the AutoPlucker, a feature that brings Pluckit to life on any day of the week at any hour, plucks for a predetermined time and then disconnects.

My news server requires a username and password, how can I log on with Pluckit?

Pluckit has username and password capability for those who need it. Look at Setup/Other Settings.

How many pictures will Pluckit download? 

Can I change the order of the newsgroups to be plucked?

Sure, with Pluckit you can change the order of newsgroups, the order of topics, and even the order of news servers.

Does Pluckit handle multi-part images? 

Yes. Pluckit will assemble multiparts, even if they are found at different times and in different newsgroups

I collect certain series of pictures, can Pluckit search only for a certain poster or a series name?

Yes. Pluckit has the capability of obtaining only certain, specific articles as specified by the user.

What is a news server address and how do I tell what mine is?

A news server address is the name of the computer that provides your news service. It may be in the form of text such as "news.bigserver.com" or as a number: "302.176.82.11".

I don't care about some of the features, so what is the fastest way to set the program up to start getting pictures?

To get started quickly, follow the steps under "Quick Start" in the Pluckit help or use the Wizard. All of the functionality of Pluckit will not be enabled, but this process will get you online and Plucking quickly!

Why do you post so many updates and new versions?

The DeKaf Company is a progressive software company, unhindered by old ways of doing business. Rather than make the user wait through an entire product cycle for a fix like some companies do, it is our policy to issue updates and bug fixes as soon as they are completed, and as many as required. Why make the customer wait? After all, bug fixes are free!

Can I use Pluckit to automatically get fonts from the fonts newsgroup?

Yes. Fonts can be plucked just as easily as pictures are.

How can I find the non-image files that have been plucked, such as zips, txt, wad, etc?

They will be found in the topic download folder (each topic in Pluckit has its own download folder which is established in Setup).

Can I use the Pluckit viewers to sort my pictures?

Yes. Pluckit has a special holding area that you can send pictures to as they are viewed. The DeKaf Company also offers the picture sorting program Sort-it that has many more powerful features.

Is there a way to encrypt the pictures that Pluckit plucks, so no one else can see them?

Yes. Use Tangle-it , from The DeKaf Company. Tangle-it works only on graphic files and makes them unreadable.
